First of all, the event focuses on organising a camp exploring the potential for commercial exploitation of open source hardware and software, and at the same time promote creativity and bottomup grassroots innovation initiatives.

Open source innovation camp

The event comprised of several open source hardware activities.

During the first two days, on June 11 to June 12, 2019 , there was a RISC-V workshop focusing on the free and open RISC-V instruction set architecture. It was a great success, with 325 people from industry and academia working on the RISC-V ISA which is one of the most visible open source hardware projects.

Afterwards: 4 half-day workshops (13-14 June) on - Open source licensing - Challenges and opportunities for using Open Source Hardware in the academia and in the industry (part of Task 2.4 see separate report for additional details) - The path towards high quality Free and Open Source Silicon IP - Open Source EDA tools

Four half-day hands-on training sessions on open source hardware: - Understanding and working with PULP (ETHZ/University of Bologna) - OpenPiton+Ariane (Princeton) - PULP HERO (ETHZ) (part of Task 1.6 see separate report) - GAP8 (Greenwaves)

Thematic workshop

On Thursday, June 13, the Eurolab4HPC thematic workshop covered: "Challenges and opportunities for using Open Source Hardware in the academia and in the industry".

Eurolab4HPC aims to advocate and support the use of open source hardware and software for education, innovation and industry. This workshop was a perfect opportunity to connect people from academia, industry and the business world and present and discuss the pros and cons of using open source hardware and how we can help its success. The workshop attracted close to 70 people
