This project was funded after the first call for technology transfer projects, and has focused on transferring the renowned experience of the scientific partner in the matter of software and hardware solutions for Computational and Sensing RFID applications to SensorID, the SME partner.
The goal has been to provide it with a working prototype of a novel system for waste tracking and management composed of:
a cloud-based HPC software platform able to guarantee high performance and scalability responsible for storing data coming from several CS-RFID nodes, processing them through appropriate algorithms, and making them available to third parties through interfaces based on the REST paradigm as well as open data;
an RFID-based prototype to be integrated into reusable waste bins capable of transmitting both identification code and weight of the waste, to be used as data source of the whole cloud software platform.
With this TTX, an important economic impact on SensorID’s business is expected in terms of competitiveness, market expansion and mid-term ROI. Moreover, being SensorID a technology provider, a positive impact is foreseen for its customers involved in the waste supply-chain.
Specifically, by commercializing the HPC CS-RFID-based solution, SensorID has gained benefit in:
consolidating the premium markets of both emerging green electronic and smart ultra-low power wireless devices for IoT;
getting potential access to new market segments in the waste supply chain, both as technology and service provider;
increasing the products in catalog with novel and personalized services exploiting innovative IoT-aware solutions;
increasing both revenue and customer portfolio from the waste traceability segment.
On the other hand, the technology provided during the project could make the customers benefit in:
reducing the traceability infrastructure costs as well as the complexity whilst improving the speed-up thanks to the cloud-based HPC solution;
reducing the software services maintenance costs;
=> reducing waste-bin theft through the real-time smart monitoring system;
=> improving worker productivity and efficiency with consequent reduction of the working cost in the whole waste supply chain.
